I have a confession: I’ve never had a house cleaner before. I’ve always wanted one but never hired one either for budget reasons or just playing a bit of the mom martyr who thinks she can do everything (but really can’t).
As my husband’s back issues have gotten a bit worse, I decided to finally hire a gardener because it was worth the extra money to keep his back from hurting more than it already did. Plus, I have no time to do it and that grass isn’t cutting itself. That finally opened the door for me to accept that I needed help with house cleaning too. I mean – I have three boys. The house is pretty much dirty again right after I clean it. And then I’m cranky all day because I can’t clean the house fast enough.
So when I started looking for green housecleaning options I came up short. Really, short. It’s almost non-existent unless you provide a house cleaner with your own products.
Then I found out about Naked Clean. I know, the name makes it sound like a bunch of scantily-clad maids cleaning the house – which I’m sure my husband would find some way to stay home for the next cleaning. But actually, Naked Clean is a San Diego-based house cleaning and maid service that specializes in green cleaning – thus, the naked. They don’t use harsh chemicals like bleach to clean. In fact, they use something totally revolutionary… probiotics.
I met with the owner Dave Leonhart to talk about the products. He started Naked Clean with his wife after his own negative experience. His house cleaner used bleach and an ammonia-based window cleaner to clean his bathroom for years, which lead to serious health issues that landed him several visits to the hospital. I remember my own mother using bleach to clean the bathrooms as a child too.
Dave then discovered probiotics cleaners, which literally remove germs and allergens at the microscopic level, including bad dust mites and mildew. Many hospitals and universities use probiotic cleaners to clean without toxic chemicals. Learn more about the science behind probiotic cleaners.
He’s since been committed to using probiotic cleaners with Naked Clean. All Naked Clean house cleaners have been specially trained to use probiotic cleaners on everything from bathrooms to kitchens to floors. In fact, just adjusting the concentration of probiotics in water can make the solution more concentrated for heavy-duty cleaning.
Plus, those with allergies (or family members with allergies) will love Naked Clean. Their probiotic cleaners are one of the best ways to clean without aggravating allergies – and without the toxic chemicals.
So when I booked the appointment to have my house cleaned, I was giddy. I even tidied up a little before the house cleaner came because I just couldn’t stand for her to see how awful my toilets really look – anyone with boys here?
The Naked Clean house cleaners arrived right on time. There were two ladies who were very courteous and noted the time they came, and asked about the areas that I wanted to clean. Bathrooms, kitchen and deep cleaning (like washing my blinds, window sills and walls) were my priority. They stayed for 3.5 hours because my house was DIR-TAY!
And then… my house was gorgeous. I couldn’t have been happier. They did a fantastic job.
I can’t remember my bathroom being so clean and spotless.
Or my living room crumb free. And I loved that my photos finally got dusted.
And she even scrubbed my dining room chairs, which were filthy with food and who knows what from the kids, and cleaned my walls and baseboards.
I would definitely hire Naked Clean again. I love that it’s a family-run business and that the owners are dedicated to green cleaning. I even geeked out a bit with Dave, the owner, about green cleaning alternatives. He gave me a bottle of probiotic cleaner, and I’ve been cleaning everything with it. There’s no strong smell and it’s all-natural.
